Introduction

To many, the term Voice over IP (VoIP) still conjures up memories of crackly conversations over the internet using a cumbersome headset attached to a PC. But today's VoIP services have come along way since then. Indeed, they are almost indistinguishable in quality from ordinary phone lines, and are capable of providing far greater functionality. If you use third-party carriers for long-distance and international calls, the chances are that you have already used VoIP without being aware of it.

A report by Frost & Sullivan predicts that 75% of all voice services will be delivered across the internet by 2007. A recent convert to the technology is Lloyds of London who recently implemented a voice-over-IP network and have projected a net benefit of £4m over the next four years.

The appeal of VoIP technology lies in cost savings that come from adding voice to the line that carries internet access and the benefits speak for themselves:

  • reduced phone bills and network administration costs
  • increased employee mobility and productivity
  • more intelligent call handling
  • greater organisational flexibility
  • new ways to communicate with third parties

The aim of the Forum

The VoIP Forum aims to give senior IT executives a thorough insight into the strategic and business issues relating to VoIP implementation, whilst at the same time providing a platform for networking with leading vendors of VoIP technology and solutions.

Key issues to be discussed

  • What are the pros and cons versus existing voice networks?
  • How to implement a framework for developing VoIP strategy
  • How to develop IT and operational capabilities for VoIP
  • How Voice Over IP will work with your current LAN and WAN environments
  • How emerging standards such as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) will effect voice over IP rollouts
  • What steps to take to secure your voice calls
  • What are the risk factors in VoIP implementation?
  • What are the VoIP implementation options?
  • What are the rewards of VoIP?

The Forum format

The VoIP Forum will consist of a one-day conference with a series of presentations from leading vendors, users and industry experts, together with a small exhibition where delegates will have access to a range of supplier companies during the refreshment and lunch breaks.

Who should attend?

The VoIP forum will be of major importance to:

  • Managing Directors and CEOs
  • IT Directors and CIOs
  • IT Managers
  • Telecommunication Managers
  • Network Managers
  • IS Directors/Managers
  • eBusiness Managers

In addition to managers from other functional activities who wish to gain a greater understanding of VoIP

Benefits of Attending

  • Opportunity to gain knowledge and insight from industry leaders
  • Make informed decisions about incorporating VoIP into your business strategy
  • Discover how to achieve real return on investment from VoIP
  • Relaxed but focussed atmosphere to explore new ideas and technologies with industry experts and peers away from the distraction of the office

The key commercial decision when considering to deploy VoIP is that of risk. While some organisations may choose to 'throw out' the PBX, many more would rather deploy VoIP while retaining a PSTN option. Tenor intelligent VoIP switches are the only ones to eliminate the risk of VoIP deployment while guaranteeing QoS
- Return on Investment in VoIP can be mere months for an SME
- ROI for a multi-national can be mere weeks
- Reduce IT ops costs by from a shared converged infrastructure
- Reduce telecoms bills and support a distributed workforce
