Introduction
IP VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) offer a flexible, cost-effective
and secure alternative to expensive leased lines, and are
an especially effective means of exchanging critical information
for employees working remotely in branch offices, at home,
or on the road. They can also enable organisations to extend
secure and cost-effective connectivity to customers, suppliers
and business partners, who may have a huge physical distance
between them.
According to recent figures from industry analyst Ovum, the
global market for IP VPNs will grow from $4.7bn in 2001 to
almost $32.5 bn in 2006. Analysys another industry analyst
also recently predicted that 'nine out of ten European
enterprises will be using virtual private networks (VPNs)
based on internet technologies within the next two years'.
The recent development and improvement of technology, standards
and security, now make IP VPNs a very attractive option and
the benefits speak for themselves:
- reduced operational costs
- exceptional network performance and reliability
- highest levels of security
- increased employee mobility and productivity
- greater organisational and change flexibility
However, confusion abounds and executives who are looking
to discover if they can achieve real return on their investments
from IP VPN, find it increasingly difficult to get unbiased
and clear information. This one-day event plans to fill that
need.
The aim of the forum
The IP VPN Forum aims to give senior IT, Network and Telecoms
executives a thorough insight into the strategic and business
issues relating to IP VPN implementation and management, whilst
at the same time providing a platform for networking with
leading vendors of IP VPN technology and solutions at the
accompanying exhibition.
Key issues to be discussed
What are the real business benefits of IP VPN?
What are the pros and cons versus existing ISDN, Leased Line
and Frame Relay networks?
How to implement a framework for developing an IP VPN strategy
How to develop IT and operational capabilities for IP VPN
What are the IP VPN implementation options? (IPSec vs SSL;
unmanaged Services vs managed; CPE-based services vs network
based; IPSec vs MPLS vs SSL)
What are the rewards and risks in IP VPN implementation?
What steps to take to secure your network?
What QoS (Quality of Service) and SLAs (Service Level Agreements)
should be in place?
How are companies presently using IP VPN technology?
What are the killer applications?
The forum format
The IP VPN Forum will consist of a one-day conference with
a series of presentations from leading vendors, end users,
analysts and industry experts together with a small exhibition
where delegates will have access to a range of supplier companies
during the refreshment and lunch breaks.

- Organisations are still looking to increase their
value through the appropriate application of technology.
- However, in the area of convergence there seems
to be as much hype as reality leading to understandable
confusion and cynicism.
- This presentation uses real customer examples to
examine what are possible, the alternative options
available and the benefits derived but also the obstacles
that have to be addressed.
