Introduction

IP is changing the way companies communicate, and is reshaping the business landscape. Through the unification of voice and data networks, IP enables all types of communications – voice, video and data, wired and wireless voice – run over a single Internet Protocol (IP) network. In turn, users can become more mobile, more productive with greater access to new levels of feature functionality from a diverse range of devices, including phones, PCs, PDAs and mobile phones and can have consistent access to an array of new business communications applications and solutions.

IP Telephony (IPT), VoIP, Unified Messaging, IP Audio/Video Conferencing, SMS, Online Collaboration Services, IP Contact Centre, Mobile Extensions, VoWLAN and VoWi-Fi applications are just a few examples of such solutions. According to recent figures from industry analyst Synergy Research, the market for IP Telephony (IPT) alone is predicted to grow to $4.4bn in 2006 from $849m in 2002. The recent development and improvement of performance, functionality, standards, security and quality of service (QoS), now make IP Communications a very attractive option and the benefits speak for themselves:

  • reduced phone bills and operational costs
  • reduced network management overhead and more integrated systems
  • more intelligent call handling
  • increased employee mobility, flexibility and productivity
  • greater operational efficiency and moves, adds and changes flexibility
  • more efficient support for remote and home workers

However, whilst IP Communications is currently on the minds of many IT executives, confusion over the most appropriate implementation options (pure IP versus IP enabled PBXs; unmanaged vs managed), and concerns about reliability, quality of service (QoS), security, and manageability still abound. IT Executives who are looking to discover if they can achieve real return on their investments from IP, find it increasingly difficult to get unbiased and clear information. This one-day forum plans to fill that need.

The aim of the forum

The Enterprise IP Communications 2006 Forum aims to give IT, Network and Telecoms decision makers from end user organizations a thorough insight into the strategic and business issues relating to IP Communications design, implementation and management, whilst at the same time providing a platform for networking with leading vendors of IP Communications technology and solutions and their peers at the accompanying exhibition.

Key issues to be discussed

What are the real business benefits of IP Communications (IP Telephony, VoIP, IP Video, IP Contact Centre and Unified Messaging)?
How to design and manage a framework for developing an IP Communications implementation strategy — full migration or specific workgroups?
How to develop IT and operational capabilities to ensure reliability, security, interoperability and manageability
What are the IP Communications implementation options? (Pure IP vs IP-enabled PBX systems; IP Centrex; unmanaged services vs managed)
How to balance financial, operational and risk factors to choose the right one?
How to deploy cost effective and secure remote home and mobile worker facilities
What QoS (Quality of Service) and SLAs (Service Level Agreements) should be in place?
What tools are available to enable you to better manage and troubleshoot your IP networks performance to produce the expected reliability? How effective are these tools?
What steps to take to secure your IP network?
Wireless Voice over IP ready or not?
The technology is changing so fast — how can you avoid backing the wrong horse?
What should you be looking for from a potential IP Communications supplier?
What are the rewards and risks in an IP Communications implementation? What are the killer applications?
How are companies presently using IP Communications technology?
