Introduction

IP SAN (Storage Area Networks) solutions using the iSCSI standard offer a flexible, cost-effective, secure and easy to implement and manage alternative to expensive Fibre Channel SANs, and are an especially effective means of consolidating storage environments. However, one of the most important benefits of iSCSI is that it uses TCP/IP networks and can use existing network infrastructure and administrator skill sets to offer low-cost connectivity for consolidation.

With storage growth estimates going through the roof and data traffic continuing to grow the need for more efficient and affordable data availability, back up & restore, growth management, storage administration, server consolidation, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions is increasing every day. IP SANs & iSCSI are capable of all of the above and have evolved as a worthy competitor to Fibre Channel.

The recent development of and improvement of performance, quality of service, and security, now make IP SANs & iSCSI a very attractive option and the benefits speak for themselves:

  • Reduced implementation and operational costs
  • Unlimited reach and integrates with existing networks
  • High availability of information and easier data extraction
  • Reduced learning curve as builds on familiar Ethernet, IP and WAN skills
  • Affordable disaster recovery and business continuity
  • Greater organisational and change flexibility
  • Exceptional network performance and reliability

However, confusion still abounds and executives who are looking to discover if they can achieve real return on their investments (ROI) and reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) from IP SANs and iSCSI find it increasingly difficult to get unbiased and clear information. This one-day event plans to fill that need.

The aim of the forum

The IP SAN (Storage Area Networks) & iSCSI Forum aims to give IT, Network and Storage Managers from end user organisations a thorough insight into the strategic and business issues relating to IP SAN & iSCSI implementation and management, whilst at the same time providing a platform for networking with leading vendors of IP SAN & iSCSI technology and solutions at the accompanying exhibition.

Key issues to be discussed

What are IP SAN & iSCSI and how do they work?
What are the pros and cons versus existing fibre channel SANs?
What are the real business benefits of IP SAN & iSCSI?
Are fibre channel and iSCSI — competing or complementary technologies?
What are the IP SAN & iSCSI implementation options?
How to implement a framework for developing an IP SAN & iSCSI strategy
How to develop IT and operational capabilities for IP SAN & iSCSI
The technology is changing so fast - how can you avoid backing the wrong horse?
What should you be looking for from a potential IP SAN & iSCSI supplier?
What QoS (Quality of Service) and SLAs (Service Level Agreements) should be in place?
What steps to take to manage and secure your IP SAN & iSCSI network?
What are the rewards and risks in IP SAN & iSCSI implementation? What are the killer applications?
How are companies presently using IP SAN & iSCSI technology?
