Introduction

IP VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) offer a flexible, cost-effective and secure alternative to expensive leased lines, and are an especially effective means of exchanging critical information for employees working remotely in branch offices, at home, or on the road. They can also enable organisations to extend secure and cost-effective site-to-site connectivity to customers, suppliers and business partners, who may have a huge physical distance between them.

According to analyst firm Frost & Sullivan "IP VPN uptake is buoyant", indicating that the market is taking a "significant turn for the better". Companies are migrating their networks from Frame Relay and ATM to IP VPN. The virtual private network (VPN) services market was worth $23bn (£12.5bn) in 2005 and is expected to grow another 22 per cent to hit $29bn (£15.8bn) by 2009, according to another industry analyst Infonetics. The research found that 77 per cent of VPN services revenue came from site-to-site VPNs in 2005, with remote access VPNs accounting for the remainder.

The recent development and improvement of technology, standards and security, now make IP VPNs a very attractive option and the benefits speak for themselves:

  • anywhere, anytime access
  • reduced operational costs
  • exceptional network performance and reliability
  • highest levels of security
  • increased employee mobility and productivity
  • teleworker support
  • greater organisational and change flexibility

However, confusion still abounds and executives who are looking to discover the "pros and cons" of SSL, IP Sec, MPLS and Managed VPNs for remote access and site-to-site connectivity, find it increasingly difficult to get unbiased and clear information. This one-day event plans to fill that need.

The aim of the forum

The Enterprise IP VPN (Remote Access & Site-to-Site) 2007 Forum aims to give IT, Network and Telecoms Managers from end user organisations a thorough insight into the strategic and business issues relating to IP VPN implementation and management, whilst at the same time providing a platform for networking with leading vendors of IP VPN technology and solutions at the accompanying exhibition.

Key issues to be discussed

What are the real business benefits of IP VPN?
What are the pros and cons versus existing ISDN, Leased Line and Frame Relay networks?
How to implement a framework for developing an IP VPN strategy
How to develop IT and operational capabilities for IP VPN
What are the IP VPN implementation options? (IPSec vs SSL; unmanaged Services vs managed; CPE-based services vs network based; IPSec vs MPLS vs SSL)
The technology is changing so fast - how can you avoid backing the wrong horse?
What should you be looking for from a potential IP VPN supplier?
What QoS (Quality of Service) and SLAs (Service Level Agreements) should be in place?
How effective are quality of service (QoS) tools?
What products are available for monitoring, controlling and accelerating application performance?
What steps to take to secure your IP VPN network?
What are the rewards and risks in IP VPN implementation? What are the killer applications?
How are companies presently using IP VPN technology?

The forum format

The IP VPN 2006 Forum will consist of a one-day conference with a series of presentations from leading industry experts, vendors and analysts, together with actual end user case studies.
